# Google Sheets

> Install the Messari by Blockworks add-on for Google Sheets and pull Blockworks data into your spreadsheet with native formulas or the Formula Builder.

The Messari by Blockworks add-on for Google Sheets pulls Blockworks market, onchain, and
social data directly into your spreadsheet, either with native formulas or through the
built-in Formula Builder. The add-on is listed in the Google Workspace Marketplace and in
the Sheets **Extensions** menu under the **Messari** name, and its formulas carry the
`messari_` prefix.

You can use it to:

* Pull latest or historical metrics
* Build dashboards and models
* Compare assets, networks, exchanges, and sectors

## Installation

Install the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace:

## Launch the add-on

In the toolbar, go to **Extensions** > **Messari** > **Open Sidebar**.

### Authentication

After selecting **Get Started**, you are prompted to authenticate with your API key.

Generate or view your key at
[app.blockworks.com/account/api](https://app.blockworks.com/account/api). Once you have it,
click **Sign in** and enter the key.

Each user must authenticate individually. In shared spreadsheets, formulas only run for
authenticated users.

## Using the Formula Builder

The Formula Builder is the easiest way to get started and to discover what data is
available.

  <Step title="Select an entity">
    Choose what you want to analyze:

    * Assets
    * Assets on a specific network
    * Projects
    * Projects on a specific network
    * Networks
    * Exchanges
    * Exchanges on Networks
    * Sectors
    * Sub-Sectors
    * Markets

    Use search to find the entity quickly.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select a metric">
    After selecting an entity, choose a metric such as market cap, volume, price, TVL,
    revenue, or mindshare.

    <Note>
      If no metrics appear after selecting an entity, there may be no data coverage for
      that entity and metric combination, or the metric may not be included in your API
      access.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select a time period">
    Choose how the data comes back: latest, a specific date, the last 7, 14, or 30 days, or
    a custom date range.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Insert or copy the formula">
    Click **Insert Formula** to drop the formula into the selected cell. You can also copy
    it and paste it into any cell manually.

## Formula syntax

You can always write formulas directly without the builder.

### `=messari_point`

Returns the value for a specific date.

**Syntax**

```
=messari_point("metric", "entity", "date")
```

**Examples**

```
=messari_point("mcap", "ethereum", "2025-01-01")
```

Ethereum market cap on Jan 1, 2025

```
=messari_point("market.volume", "coinbase:BTC/USDT", "2025-01-01")
```

Coinbase BTC/USDT volume on Jan 1, 2025

```
=messari_point("sector.mcap", "DeFi", "2025-01-01")
```

DeFi sector market cap on Jan 1, 2025

### `=messari_latest_point`

Returns the most recent daily value.

**Syntax**

```
=messari_latest_point("metric", "entity")
```

**Examples**

```
=messari_latest_point("volume", "ethereum")
```

Latest daily volume for Ethereum

```
=messari_latest_point("asset.circulating.supply", "solana")
```

Latest daily circulating supply for Solana

### `=messari_series`

Returns a time series over a date range.

**Syntax**

```
=messari_series( "metric","entity", "startDate","endDate",includeHeaders,includeDateCol)
```

`includeHeaders` and `includeDateCol` are optional parameters.

**Examples**

```
=messari_series( "exchange.volume", "binance","2025-01-01","2025-01-30", true,true)
```

```
=messari_series( "asset.revenue", "chainlink", "2025-01-01","2025-01-30", true, true)
```

## Access to metrics

Which metrics you can pull is determined by your organization's API permissions. Datasets
such as onchain metrics, mindshare, and sentiment require the corresponding API access.

Review the APIs and permissions available to you at
[app.blockworks.com/account/api](https://app.blockworks.com/account/api). If a metric does
not appear in the Formula Builder, it is likely not included in your current access.
